EIRE POLITICS
PRECARIOUS MAJORITY AT MERCY OP GROUP (United Press Assn.—Elec. TeL Copyright) DUBLIN. May 28 The proclamation dissolving the Eire Elreann stated that the Government, with ita precarious majority, was consistently at the mercy of a group of combinations supporting sectional Interests and could not do the work of the nation as It should be done. The order for a new election has startled the people of Eire, who expected the Government to await the result of the Monoghan by-election on June 7 before fixing a date for the general election. Monaghan would have been a straight-out fight between the Government and the Opposition. Nomination day was to have been May 28 but the by-election has now been cancelled. Furthermore. Dr. Douglas Hyde’s initallation as President, planned for June 1. has been postponed to an unfixed date not later than June 27. Eight Ministers have cancelled their arrangements to address meetings on May 29.
