DR. J. W. MELLOR’B DEATH ONCE DUNEDIN BOOT CLICKER (By Telegraph.—Press Association) DUNEDIN, Monday Private advice here reports the death of Dr. Joseph William Mellor (88). originally a bloot clicker in Sar--1 good s Dunedin factory- He won renown In Britain’s chem'cal world, becoming a world authority on ceramics. While following his Mumble occupation he studied chemistry at the University under the late P ofeasor Black and won an exhibition scholarship which enabled him to go to Eneland. He applied his knowledge to the pottery industry, becoming consulting chemist to leading firms. H* retired three years ago He was author of a monumental work of 18 volumes on inorganic theoretical chemistry and ■everal other works. During the war Dr. Meiior’s knowledge proved very valuable to Britain, particularly in steel manufacture. For this he took neither pecuniary nor titular reward. He is survived by a widow, whom he married the year he left Dunedin.
