LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
EIGHTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS The Hamilton branch of the League of Mothers held their eighth birthday party in St. Andrew’s Ilall recently. Jt was a happy gathering, welcomed by Mrs W. Fraser, president. Mrs Fraser read greetings from other branches and the aims and objects of the league, and referred to the death of an old and valued member, Mrs Alexander. Apologies were received from Mesdames Marychurch, Gilbert, Fow, Storrey, llicks and H. Gadd. The hall looked charming, decorated with large bowls of autumn folia’ge and chrysanthemums. A varied programme was presented, consisting of games, competitions, musical items, and a play-reading by members of the committee, Mesdames G. Moore, Chegwidden, Edwards, F. G. Watson and G. J. Baker. Elocutionary Items, Mrs Thomas; piano solos, Miss Joan Sellar; violin trio, Mrs Wilson. Miss Wilson and Miss Phyllis Wilkinson ; songs, Miss Ona Baker and Miss Liddv were also much appreciated. Mrs Moore presented Mrs Fraser with a posy, and expressed the thanks of the members for her services to the league. A delicious supper was served to about 70 members and guests, and the birthday cake, which was admired with its eight blue and gold candles and blue and gold icing, was cut by Mrs Wallace. The winners of the competitions were Mesdames Burston, Griffin, Westwater, and Miss Wilkins. The singing of "Auld Lang Syne” concluded a very pleasant exening.
