OPPONENTS AT ELECTION RABBIT BOARD EMPLOYEES RAGLAN COUNTY COMMENT (Times Special Reporter; NGARUAWAHIA. Thursday "It •••ma to mo distinctly unfair that employees of the board openly took part In a political campaign against me ( '* remarked Mr N. W. Wilson, ohalrman of the Raglan County Council, at the annual meeting yesterday. Mr Wilson alleged that since the council had decided to discontinue Its subsidy to the Te Akau North Rabbit Board employees had openly opposed him at the recent election, and one had gone as far as to ofTer to canvass for his opponent. **l challenged all four members of the board with Inspiring a personal attack against me. and I received no denial. I consider that It was a disgraceful state of affairs for employees of the board to appear as an opponent of an old member of this council ” Mr R. J. Glasgow stated that the council’s action In terminating Its connection with the rabbit board had been a burning question In his area, and he could not see that the step taken had tended towards economy. He thought the matter was still capable of settlement to the advantage of both parties. Mr Wilson: The action was taken to save the ratepayers money. He contended that the board had proved unwieldy, with a secretary and offices In Auckland, a chief inspector In the Franklin County and a meetingplace at Tuakau. Mr Glasgow gave notice of motion to move at. the Dext meeting of the council that the minute concerning the termination of the services of the inspectors of the rabbit board be rescinded.
