FOOTWAY SUGGESTED
HUNTLY RAILWAY BRIDGE TRAFFIC STRUCTURE WANTED (Times Special Reporter) NGARUAWAHIA, Wednesday A deputation from the Huntly Borough Council waited on the Raglan County Council yesterday concerning a proposal put forward by the Main Highways Board to erect a footpath on the railway bridge at Huntly- The matter was raised In a letter from the board, which offered a subsidy on the construction of the footway. * Mr W. C. E. George* Mayor of Huntly, said his council was not !n favour of going ahead with the proposed foot-bridge, as they recognised that ft would not be long before a traffic bridge would have to be built, and the expenditure on a footpath would not be warranted In view of this. The council realised that the present bridge was unsafe for children. but It would be better to retain the structure as It was until a proper traffic bridge could be provided. The chairman of the council, Mr H. W. Wilson, endorsed Mr George’s remarks, and suggested that the county and borough authorities should hold a conference to further the proposal for securing a new trafflo bridge, the Main Highways Board to be informed accordingly. “The traffic bridge must come, and it would be better to put up with the present railway bridge as H Is,” added Mr Wilson.
