May 21 The state of parties in the House of Assembly as the result of the South African general election, with one return outstanding, is as follows: United Party 11l Nationalist Party 26 Dominion Party 8 Labour Party 3 Socialist 1 General Hertzog's majority over his Nationalist opponent was reduced in the final count-. General Smuts’ majority was 2000 votes. It is expected Senator C. F. Clarkson. Minister of Posts, and the only Natal member of ihe Cabinet, will resign. Mr P. G. W. Grobler, Minister of Native Affairs, did not seek reelection owing to ill-health. General Hertzog, with a clear majority of 73, will proceed to reconstruct Ills Cabinet.
