CLARK McCON ACHY’S VISIT WONDERFUL MASTERY SHOWN A demonstration of the skill, accuracy and profound knowledge of the alpiost innumerable shots necessary to make a first-class billiards player was witnessed in the Central Billiards Saloon last even’ng when Clark McConachv, the New Zealand champion, who is cn tour in the Dominion prior to returning to England, played with a local amateur player. Ehawir.g a wonderful masteiy over the balls and playing difficult shots with either hand from all angles. McConachy introduced practically all departments of the game. Playing 1000 lip and conceding his opponent a start of 700, the visitor had little difficulty in running out an easy winner* The large audience frequently applauded McConachv for bis skill in scoring from seemingly impossible positions. His biggest break, which completed bis total of 1079, Was 303. The other breaks were 54 off the break-up, 157. 56, 113, 34, 112, 42 and 80. Following the billiards contest McConachy played two games of snooker and won one. An exhibition of trick shots by McConachy was followed by a talk on the finer points of the game and examples of correct and incorrect methods of play. On bis return to England McConachy will take part in several competitions and might contest the world's title. Last evening's visit was sponsored by Mr M. Mclntyre.
