TITLE-HOLDER EXTENDED ROTORUA CHAMPIONSHIP MRS MCDONALD DEFEATED (By Telegraph—Special ta Tlmei) ROTORUA, Thursday. Conditions were not as good to-day when the Rotorua Ladies’ Golf Club’s open championship at the Arikikapakapa links entered the semi-final stages but the standard was again good and keen golf was seen when the' title-holder, Miss J. Duncan, of Wanganui, narrowly qualified to play in the final this afternoon by defeating Mrs E. L. Barker (Rotorua), one up. Miss Duncan's form was not as impressive as yesterday. The Hamilton semi-finalist, Mrs H. McDonald, played good golf but she was eliminated by Mrs G. W. Foote, of Whangarei, 3 up and 2 to play. The final of the championship was commenced later this afternoon between Miss Duncan and Mrs Foote. Arlklkapakapa Cup The results of the semi-finals in the Arikikapakapa Cup for players handicapped between i‘7 and 24 were more decisive but, nevertheless, the standard of play was good. Miss M. Pearce (Wairarapa) gained another victory when she defeated Mrs C. Blundell (Wellington), 3 and 2. Mrs Waddell (New Plymouth) had the measure of Miss S. Snodgrass (Thames) for the most part of the round, winning 4 and The Cup final between Miss Pearce and Mrs Waddell was commenced this afternoon. The Canadian Foursome's match this morning was won by Miss J. Edwards and Mrs L. Pegler with a card of 89—18—71. HAMILTONIANS PROMINENT PLAY IN SECOND ROUND (Special to Times) ROTORUA, Wednesday Better golf was witnessed in the Rotorua Ladies’ Golf Club's open championship at Arikikapakapa links to-day, when match play began. Miss P. Bell, of Seafield, was defeated by Mrs L. Day (Hamilton). Although only 18 years of age Miss Bell had already established a reputation as one of the most promising young golfers in the Dominion. Yesterday she returned an 82 and a 79 to qualify in the first position with the good gross score of 161 against 179 returned by Mrs Day. This morning, however, she lost much of her accuracy, while her opponent was playing a better game. The match went to the 18th, where Mrs Day was one up.

The title-holder, Miss J. Duncan, of Wanganui, had a comfortable win of 6 and 5 against Miss E. Mills (Pupuke) in the morning and in the afternoon defeated Mrs P. R. Glanville (Te Awamutu) . Another success for the Hamilton Club was the good win by 2 and 1 of Mrs H. McDonald against Mrs Foreman (Miramar), the lowest-handicapped in the tournament. Later Mrs Day was eliminated by Mrs McDonald. 5 and 4. The semi-finals in both the championship and cup contests wTTI be decided to-morrow morning, and the finals during the afternoon.
