FANCY DRESS DANCE
RUKUHIA SCHOOL CHILDREN A successful children’s fancy dress dance was held in the Rukuhia Hall recently to raise funds for the school. The hall, which had been decorated with red, green and yellow streamers by the members of the school committee, provided a gay scene, with the children in their fancy costumes. During the grand parade, the judges, Mesdames Roebuck, Bremer and Carryer, had a difficult task in choosing the best costumes. The audience was entertained with folk dances given by the children, the music being played by Mrs Parrish, assistant school-mistress. From 10 o'clock until 12 dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mrs Flyger, Mrs Laurent (Paeroa), and Messrs Raynes and NewlandThe prize-winners were: Rae Provis, Dorothy Parker, Shirley and Margaret Perrow, Alison Gunn. Stephen Moss, Brian Raynes, Donald Lee, Gerald Flemming. The children present “in fancy dress were:—Rae Provis, Fan; Sharp, Good Luck; Nell Provis, Wooden Soldier; Maureen Knox, Pierrot; Ngaire Smith, Fairy; Dorothy Parker, Weldon's Fancywork; -Rosa Lee, Gipsy; Dorothy Smith, Court Jester; Alison Gunn, Page Boy; Nina Gunn, Flower Girl; Shirley Pyper, Shepherdess; Gwenda Pyper, Shepherdess; Shirley and Margaret Perrow, Pierrot and Pierrette; Barbara Parrish, Dutch Girl; Elizabeth Moss, Gipsy; Janet Matheson, Baby; Gerald Flemming, Mexican Cowboy; Phillip Parker, Chinaman; Donald Lee, Tramp; Alex Knox, Cowboy; Graham Newland, Clown; Peter Parker, Good-night; Brian Raynes, Trumpeter.; Stephen Moss, Indian; John Gunn, Grenadier Guards; Dairy O'Connor, Air Pilot;, Keith Parrish, Dutch.
