TRADE WAR

GERMAN PREPARATIONS VAST INDUSTRIAL EXPORT PLAN BRITAIN WATCHES CLOSELY (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, May li Germany, it is widely believed here, is preparing to launch a vast industrial export plan. This would take place, at the conclusion *of German rearmament, now not far distant, and such exports would be aided by substantial subsidies. The recent expansion of German exports of manufactures! which are under-cutting those of Other countries. is being closely watched In Britain. Many questions have lately been asked.in Parliament on the subject, especially in connection with German light cars, which are sold in Britain, in spite of import duties, at prices considerably below the price ol' ihe equivalent home-made product. The result has been a formidable increase in imports. The Government is examining the position. It is emphasised that Germany has reorganised her entire industry toward the production of the most modern armaments. Once these have been completed. Germany need only devote a proportion of her machinery to replacements, thus releasing highly efficient and very rapid production units for a vast range of mass-production goods, capable of challenging manufactures in many parts of the world.
