LONDON, August 26 The three Whitcombes are leading after the second round of the NewsChroniole golf tournament. Erne'st Whltoombe returned soores of 65 and 67, a record for a major tournament. His son, Eldie, returned oards of 65 and 68. Reginald, 69 and 65, tied with Branoh, 67 and 67, for third plaoe. Charles Whitcombe scraped into the sixty qualifiers with 72 and 72. Kernot (Victoria), beat Miss B. Cheney (also of Victoria), by 6 and 5. Both players are members of the Tasman Cup team which Is going to Napier to compete against the New Zealand team in October. BASKETBALL INTER-HOUBE GAMEB ARRANGEMENTS FOR TUESDAY In order that the championship may be completed on September 7 several teams will be required to play three matches in the Y.M.C.A. inter-house basketball competitions next Tuesday.
