GOODS BY FRAUD.

FALSE REPRESENTATION. COMMITTAL FOR SENTENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Frederick Walter McLennan (34), oharged with obtaining galvanised Iron and nails valued at £BO 12s Id by means of a pretence, was committed by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., to the Supreme Court for sentence, bail being fixed at £IOO and accused ordered to report to the detective office twice daily. Joseph Henry Wagg, secretary of Messrs Briscoe Mills and Company, said that accused called at his office on August 7 and stated he was the secretary of the Xejv Zealand Institute of Automobile Engineers, and that the Institute proposed to build a hangar at Paraparaumu for the purpose of training ground engineers, and galvanised iron and nails were required. Witness referred accused to the manager, as the result of which iron and leadhead nails to the value named were supplied. Accused took possession and had the material taken to a garage. He was supplied because of his representations that he had authority from the Institute. L. R. McKenzie Lynd-Mitchell, president of the Institute, said that for three months prior to August 12 accused was secretary to the Institute. I-t was never intended by the Institute to erect a hangar at Paraparaumu and accused had no authority to make representations to any such effect. Other evidence dealt with the disposal of the iron and a detective said that when questioned accused said: “The Institute did not tell you, I suppose, that they owed me £l5O for wages, I had to get the money somehow as they did not pay me.” When bail was being discussed, the prosecution said that when accused heard that inquiries were being instituted he left Wellington and was arrested at 'Collingwood.
