COLTS WIN HOOPER CUP.
DEFEAT OF OLD BOYS. LOSERS’ FIGHTING 'GAME. Fast and interesting throughout, the game between Old Boys Colts and Old Boys on Saturday resulted in a win for the* former by two goals to one. Colts thus take possession of the Hooper Cup for the season. Old Boys attacked brilliantly ar, times, but the sound defence by the Colts team prevented them from scoring. The teams were— Colts. —J. McKinnon, C. Clark, L. Rockell, R. Badcock, F. Greaves, C. Harvey. J. Curteis, 0. McKibbin, K. Wycherley, S. A. R. Baddeley, L. Bogue. Old Boys—H. Sutherland, T. A. Ewan, J. Pountney, C. C. Ross, J. Davies, L. T. Bramwell, K. Jacka, K. Sandford, J. G. West, H. Spurdle. Old held the territorial advantage for a considerable time after the commencement, but they could not bring their attacks to a successful conclusion. McKinnon was displaying a sound defence, using his stick and legs with great effect. , Badcock Shines. Badcock was playing a useful game at this stage, and on one occasion he took the ball from his team’s circle to the half-way line. From this point McKibbin carried it on, and Colts ha 1 Old Boys pressed on their goal. A hard hit, for which Colts were penalised, caught Sutherland on the side of the head, but he was able to continue. From the free kick Ewan sent the ball straight to Bogue, and he netted with a good shot. Old Boys -were In Colts’ territory again, and from a corner it looked as if they would goal, but the shot went wide. Old Boys were still at-
tacking when half-time came, with the score— Colts 1 Old Boys 0 The second half opened with Colts defending. A corner to Old Bovs missed nad Badcock relieved past hallway. Ewan and McKibbin fought for possession, and Pountney received and relieved with a long shot. West, In following up, failed to take possession, and Baddeley beat him for the ball. Colts forced Old Boys into their own territory, Greaves and Harvey figuring prominently. Clark sent a long shot to the line and Wycherley followed up fast, but Pountney came across and put the ball out. Play operated in front of the goal for a considerable time until Curteis made sure of a shot at goal. Oolts Leading. With Colts leading by two goals to nil, and with fifteen minutes left to play, Old Boys made a valiant attempt to Improve the position. Play changed from one end of the field to the other, without either team scoring. Finally Old Boys held Colts in their own territory. West made two attempts to score, but missed both times. Jacka had a clear run in front of him, but he was tackled before he could get moving. However, when Baddeley tried to clear instead of leaving the ball to McKinnon, Ewan cut in and scored Old Boys’ only goal. Time was called soon after with Colts the winners of the Hooper Cup by two goals to one. Messrs R. W. Bennett and F. B. L. Craig were the umpires.
