KAIPAKI WELL HELD
TOKOMARU’B FIGHTING GAME. MATCH ENDS WITH HONOURS EVEN Kalpaki were unable to cope with the solid Technical Tokomaru defence on Saturday, when the two teams played a drawn game. Both teams were out to win, Judging by the enthusiastic play, but neither eleven oould obtain that extra point. The teams were— Tokomaru—R. Coombes, I. Hunter, Bowler, Snell, Wilson, Taylor, Hewleit, Dowling, C. Taylor, 'Bennett. Kalpaki—Goodwin, Cowley, F. Boyd, Dunwoody, Farrell, C. Bones, T. Oddy, K. Graham, A. Boyd, G. Richardson. In spite of having only nine players. Tokomaru lost no time in assuming the territorial advantage. They had Kalpaki well held for a time until Bones led a rush down field and very nearly ■scored, but Coombes saved. Again Kaipaki invaded the Tokomaru half, and when Oddy centred G. Body received, but Taylor had him well marked, beating him for possession. Technical relieved the position and a brilliant forward rush resulted in G. Taylor goaling. Tokomaru Dominate Play. Tokomaru continued to dominate the play, and Dowling carried the ball from half-way to within striking distance of the goal. He handed on to Snell, but he was held up for an infringement, and Kaipaki relieved. Play centred around the Technical goal, but In spite of many attempts Kaipaki could not finish off the movement. Finally Oddy centred and Richard-son goaled. F. Boyd was a prominent figure in the play that followed. He relieved many dangerous situations with a sure stick and was responsible for several good openings. Kaipaki continued to harass the Tokomaru circle, and in spite of several opportunities which offered they failed to score. Coombes took the final shot on his pads and the ball went behind. It was a brilliant save by the goalie, the hit being made from about three yeards away. Technical spoilt several scoring movements by careless off side play, while their tardiness In front of the goal deprived them of several points. At half-time honours were even— Tokomaru l Kalpaki i Second Half. The second half opened with play operating In the centre of the field. Tokomaru were awarded a free hit, but they failed to make very much use of it and the ball went out at halfway. Uninteresting play followed until Kalpaki broke away, and from a tussle in front of the goal Oddy netted with a lightning shot. It was not long before Tokomaru equalised. Following a clearing shot by Snell, Dowling carried on the ball and reached the circle before Kaipaki relieved. ,T. Taylor was the next to receive, and he hit the ball down the centre of the field into the circle. A tussle followed and C. Taylor goaled. Kaipaki dominated play for the next ten minutes, except for occasional rushes by Tokomaru. However, the visitors were unable to take the lead owing to the fighting defence displayed by Technical.
