TO LEAVE HOLLYWOOD. AMBITION IN ENGLISH FILMS. Charles Laughton has announced that lie has deserted the stage for the screen and that he does not intend to make further films in Hollywood. lie has joined the producer, Erich Pommer, in the Mayflower Picture Corporation. Ltd. The’ idea is to build up an English United Artists on the lines of the famous American company. The Mayflower company will begin with “Vessel of Wrath” by Somerest Maugham, “St. Martin’s Lane,” by Clenience' Dane, and “Jamaica Inn,” by Daphne du Maurier, the first two being light comedy vein. It is Laughton’s ambition to appear again in something approximating to the spirit ol‘ his famous “Buggies of Red Gap.”
