WHATAWHATA DANCE.
i MOST ENJOYABLE EVENING. COMBINED FUNCTION. One of the most enjoyable dances held in the district for some time took place in the Whatawhata Hall recently. The dance, which was in aid of the Whatawhata Rovers’ Football Club, , was held in conjunction with a lcit—- ! chen evening tendered Miss Myrtle I Carpenter, in honour of her approach- ! ing marriage. A farewell presenta- ' tion was also made to Mr and Mrs L. i F. Barry, who are leaving the district. I There was a large attendance of local residents and many visitors from other 1 districts. Due to the efforts of an energetic ; committee, the function was highly , successful, a very happy spirit prevailing during the evening. Excellent music was played by the ; Regent Dance Band, the M’s.C. being Messrs E. King and R. Wills. Novelty i dances were won by Mr B. Gould and i Miss <:. Bynn Waitetuna), and Mr ! '!'• Uindsay and partner, i Euchre was enjoyed in the eard- ; room, the card steward being Mr V. i Davison. The euchre winners were: ! Radies 4, Mrs C. Yeoman, Mrs H. Wts and Mrs Thomson a tied; men 1, Mr A. Bowe; 2, Mr Kcitfuss and Mr : S. Bussell lied. i Before supper Mr S. Russell made i appreciative reference to the esteem in which Miss Carpenter was held and I to the part played by her in the social . life of the district. In asking her to ; accept numerous gifts, he expressed i on behalf of her friends their best • wishes for her future happiness. Miss j Gladys Kempthorne, on behalf of the j Basketball Club, asked Miss Carpenj ter to accept, with the members’ best J wishes, a pair of crystal vases as a • token of their appreciation of her serj vices to the club. Miss Carpenter j ,ias been a member of the Tennis Club i for a number of years, and on the : *'lub s behalf Mr Russell presented j her with a silver sandwich dish and i conveyed to her the members’ sincere j wishes for tier future happiness, i.Musical honours were enthusiastically i accorded Miss Carpenter, after which Mr T. McDell on her behalf returned j thanks. Presentation Made. j Mr G. C. A. Gould, in presenting Mr ! and Mi’s R. F. Barry with a smoker’s ; companion and a silver teapot, made j eulogistic reference to the willing ser- | vices rendered by them during their residence in Whatawhata, expressed ! their friends' regret at. their departure ' from the district, and offered them sin- ' cere good wishes for their future prosperity. Mr and Mrs Barry were ; a^so accorded musical honours- Mr ; Barry then extended his thanks and , those of Mrs Barry. I A delicious supper was served by ! the ladies. 1..
