WAITOA NEWS.

FAREWELL AFTERNOON. About 70 residents and friends assembled in the Waitoa Methodist -choolroom recently to bid farewell id Mrs A. Yarrall. one of the oldest residents of the district, who will leave shortly to take up her residence with her daughter in Auckland. Mrs Yarrall and family have been prominent church workers over a long period of years, and always took part in all local social activities. She will bo much missed by the wide circle of friends made during her residence in Waitoa. Mrs A. J. Luxton, of the Methodist Lakes’ Guild, presided, and in making the presentation of an inscribed gold wristlet watch and a crystal necklace on behalf of the Ladies’ Guild and tile residents, made reference to the sterling qualities and the good work of the guest-of-honour-The Ladles’ Guild was very sorry to lost* such a line member, and on behalf of all represented wished the guest of honour every happiness and long life in the future. Musical honours were then accorded. Mrs Yarrall, in responding, said she had always found it a pleasure to work with such good friends, and had derived a great deal of happiness from being associated with tlie local bodies for the good of the community. She wished them well in whatever they attempted to do. Mrs J. Lynch then presented her with a beautiful bouquet of autumn (lowers made by Mrs A. L. Wratt (Tatuanui). During the afternoon items were given by Miss E. Smith (pianoforte solos). Mrs It. Wags ta IT (solos), Mrs Brown ('songs), Miss M. Darrall (songs), Mrs A. Cooper (solos) and Mrs A. Northcolt (elocution). A jumbled word competition was won by Mrs H. Wagstaff. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies, of Ihc gui Id. the aft ernoon closing with the singing of "Auld Lang Sync."
