INTOXICATED DRIVER.
CASE AT MORRINSVILLE. MAORI’S LICENSE CANCELLED. (Times Representative.) MORRINSVILLE, Thursday. Charged with driving in Morrinsville on August 7 while under the Influence of liquor, Tau Hopa, a native, appeared In the Morrinsville Magistrate’s Court before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., yesterday. Constable J. MoMullin stated that defendant had never given any previous trouble. On the day in question he had spent the afternoon in an hotel and had later been seen driving erratically in the townFor defendant, Mr E. McGregor stated that Hopa had intended to drive only as far as a petrol sendee station, a distance of about 50 yards. Defendant now had a permanent Job and if his license were going to be affected counsel suggested that it be provided that Hopa would be prevented from driving to any place in which there was an hotel. This would enable him to use his car to go to work. Defendant was fined £lO with costs and his driving license was cancelled. He was prevented from obtaining a license before. August 11. 1938.
