CONTROL OF SPORT.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION. OLYMPIC BODY’S VIEWS. (By Telegraph.—press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The views of the New Zealand Olympio Association concerning the proposed National Council of .Sport were formulated at a meeting. They emphasised physical education in schools rather than the direct control of sports bodies. 4 It was decided to recommend to the Minister the formation of a national council of physical and recreation. The association was strongly of the opinion that there should be no compulsion of individuals to take part in a particular sport, hut that the best method was to provide facilities and equipment and stimulate a desire for participation. The control of individual sports, it was considered, should be left to existing national organisations. The paramount function was to organise and oontrol compulsory physical education in schools, subject to medical examination, using the latest methods in organised recreational games. Physical (raining should he continued until at least 21 years of age. Other general recommendations included a comprehensive survey of existing facilities for sport. The association recommended that fund 'be provided by lotteries and by the appropriation of the proceeds of the amusement tax.
