MIGRANT FROM TONGA.
A QUARTER-CASTE BOY. EMPLOYMENT ON A FARM. (By Telegraph.—-Press Association) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Of slight build and an infectious smile Dick iHettig (14), the son of a deceased New Zealand soldier who married a halfcaste, daughter of a German settler, arrived by the Matua from Nukualofa, Tonga. Ho will leave tomorrow’ for Warkworth where employment has ibeen found for him on a farm by Mr N. G. Cribble of the Youth Employment branch of the labour department. The boy wrote to Mr Gribble early this year on reading a New Zealand newspaper that boys were wanted for farm work. On arrival he was so astounded at his good fortune that lie found it difficult to express himself. He was amazed at the size of the Auckland buildings. Mr Gribble said a resident at Nukualofa had subscribed a sum of money towards the boy’s outfit, and as the captain of the Matua handed him £1? 15s there would be little or nothing taken from his wages to reimburse the committee. Mr Gribble has cabled to Nukualofa stating the boy would be on the air to-night.
