ENGLAND’S TEAM
THIRD CRICKET TEST. IYIATOH AGAINST NEW ZEALAND. ONLY TWO NEW PLAYERS. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received August 9, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, August 8. Only two new players have been selected to represent England against New Zealand In the third cricket test commencing at the Oval on Saturday, August 14. The team will be as follows : R. W. V. Robins (captain), Middlesex. K. Fames, Kent. W. B. Hammond, Gloucester. T. W. Goddard, Gloucester. C. J, Barnett, Gloucester. L. E. G. Ames, Kent. E. Paynter, Lancashire. J. Hardstaff, Nottingham. L. Hutton, Yorkshire. A. D. Matthews, Northampton. D. Compton, Middlesex. Only the bare eleven players have been announced, and in view of the fact that England has the advantage of a win, and therefore nothing to lose in this match, it is surprising that the selectors have not given more of the younger players a chance. Next season England will be engaged with the visiting Australian team, with the Ashes at stake, and now Is the opportunity to build a side to meet them. However, the only two players In this new team who have not represented England before are Matthews and Compton. Matthews Is a seasoned allrounder, while Compton, who is only 19, Is one of the most promising allrounders in the country. It is one of the strongest teams that England can produce, and New Zealand can take this as a compliment to the standard of play they have set in successive tours.
