“FREAKS” IN TENNIS.
NEVER REACH TOP RANK. G. PATTERSON ON DAVIS CUP. (By Telegraph--Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Monday. That a tennis player who uses two hands to make a stroke will never rise to No. 1 world rank was the opinion expressed to-day by Mr G. Patterson, the well-known authority on tennis, who is a through passenger on the Aorangi accompanied by his wife and child. Mr Patterson said too much time was taken In making such a stroke and the game was too fast to permit that loss of time. The style of the freak player tended to be cramped. Discussing the Davis Cup contest, he said America was unquestionably superior to Australia. Quist, lie thought, was the best in Australia now. Crawford had been played fat too much. A Sydney lad. aged i 6, named Gilchrist was thought to have i tennis future and lie predicted more would bo licard of him.
