The Cape Argus, quoting from “ an authoritative source,” -states that the ! Imperial Conference decided that the - economic ring of the Empire should be discarded in favour of freer international trade. British efforts to secure a trade agreement with America are certain to result In a modification of the Ottawa treaties, thus necessitating sacrifices from the Dominions which South Africa will make. Ottawa will be replace*! by bilateral agreements, and South Africa is likely to conclude them with France, Belgium, Holland and Czechoslovakia.
