GOOD WEATHER IN BRITAIN. SEASIDE RESORTS CROWDED. GREAT TRAFFIC ON ROADS. (Official Wireless.) RUGBY, August 3. The summer weather during the weeTt-end, extending over practically tlie whole of the British Isles, helped considerably toward giving tlie population ’ one of the most satisfactory Bank Holidays for some years. All the seaside resorts were crowded and seasonable sporting events had record attendances. The railways had unusually heavy holiday bookings. Last night motorcars returning to London wore passing points on the main roads at a rate of 3500 an hour. Tlie Automobile Association reports that, considering Hie extent of the road traffic, very few accidents occurred, and these wore of a minor character. The standard of driving is showing a definite improvement, on that set at previous holiday times. The temperature in London to-day was 80 degrees, compared with 7i yesterday. The fine weather promises to eonllnue for the -Cowes Regatta, which was opened to-day and at tended bv a phenomenal number of small craft—an indication of Hie revived popuiaritv of sailing shown during the last few £30,000.000 Spent on Holidays. The monthly review published bv I lie Midland Bank contains an article analysing holiday expenditure. The writer estimates Unit a bout 20.000.000 people in Britain lake an annual liolidnv which, for the majority, is probabiv of one week’s duration.
