STEAMER IN TROUBLE
SUBMERGED OBJECT HIT. BATTLE WITH HEAVY SEAS. ALARM AMONG PABBENQERB. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. The steamer Tee*, now at Lyttelton, Is reported to have struck an object while passing through the straits between Owenga and Pitt Islands In the Chatham Islands last week. The vessel was In the straits at midnight battling with heavy seas when she ran Into a wall of water, bumped heavily and was carried on by a big following sea. When the vessel bumped »he lurched heavily and shipped muoh water, causing a good deal of alarm among the 21 passengers. The Tees Is to be docked at Lyttelton for survey. It Is understood a preliminary marine Inquiry has already been held at Wellington.
