INCREASE OF 1707 RECORDED. 21,845 ON SUSTENANCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. On increase of 1707 registrations for the Employment Promotion Fiund during the four-weekly period ended July 3, 1937, was revealed by the acting-Minister of Labour, the Hon. p. C. Webb, in a statement issued today. The total number of males wholly or partly dependent on the fund on that date was 37,546. The following table compares the position at June 5, 1937, and July 3, 1937: June 5 July 3 Registered, but not eligible or not placed on relief 2,500 2,90 i Receiving rationed relief work 6,136 6,075 Receiving sustenance without w6rk 20,690 21,845 Receiving full-time employment wholly or partly paid from Employment Promotion Fund 6,513 6,725 Total 35,839 37,540 The increase in the total during the four-weekly period was 1707. Comparison between the figures for July 3, 1937, and for July .4, 1936, show a reduction of 16,692.
