WILD PIG MENACE.
DEPREDATIONS AP/lONG SHEEP. SUBSIDY FOR DESTRUCTION. (Special to Times.) OTOROHANGA, Tuesday. The depredations of wild pigs, among the lambing hocks or the hinterland of the King Country, have caused sheepfarmers considerable concern ever since the days of while settlement. During the lambing period (August,September) the wild pigs are attracted from the hush and scrub adjacent 10 the sheep runs by the smell of dead lambs, which they devour. When dead lambs or sheep arc not available the pigs attack newly-born lambs. As a result of strong representations to the Government, Cabinet has decided to pay one shilling per head Tor all wild pigs destroyed during August, September, October autl November In the counties of Otorohanga, Waitomo, Kawhta, Obura, Waitotara, Wanganui, Kaitleke, Walmarino, Waitotara, Whangamomona, Stratford, Patea and Taumarunut. Hunters or wild pigs must produce snouts and tails, accompanied by a certificate indicating that these parts are from wild pigs only.
