BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS. PROMPT RATE PAYMENTS. (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday. The fortnightly meeting or the Tc Awamutu Borough Council was held last evening when the Mayor, Mr G. Spinley. presided Messrs G. O. Jourdain, D. Wallace, AV j! North. G. Gilford, J. C. Montetlore, j. A. Maxwell and H. C. Rainey xvere present The town clerk, Mr D. Bo.ckett and the borough roveiuan Mr R. H. Close, were in attendance. Building permits totalling £13,497 10s including the post office (£9036) bad been Issued. The town clerk reported that a mini ber of ratepayers lock advantage of the 5 per cent, discount for PiV ** veS*'* rate's*'collected in July amounted to £7 lib 1 6s, while last year the July collection was £0283 7s Id. The total rates collectable for the year amount to £9045 Ss •hi thus leaving unpaid for the current year only £2 534 12s 2d. Through prompt payment this year the various ratepayers discounts amounted to £35 2 6s, while previous years discounts amounted to £312 135 od „ , . The secretary, Department oi Labour, advised that a special commitment or £2 7 2 bad been made .o cover the subsidy for the full-time employment or four eligible unemployed married men for four months. The position or the transformer outside the premises or the Commercial Hotel was discussed following a letter from Messrs Hancock and Company, the owners of the building, advising that the proposed erection or a balcony on their new building would be against the regulations aS TliV Mayor thought that the transformer was an obstruction and should be shifted. It was resolved to support Messrs Hancock and Company’s application and ask lhe Power Board to give the same favourable consideration.
