DESIRE FOR GOODWILL. MUSSOLINI’S CORDIAL MESSAGE. MR CHAMBERLAIN'S REPLY. United Pres* Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrtgb. ROME. July 31. The Prime Minister, Mr Chamberberlain, in replying to a cordial message from Signor Mussolini, which Count Grandi, Italian Ambassador, delivered on July 27, sent an important communication to 11 Duce, described as a personal letter of friendship. The text of the reply has not been disclosed, but an official announcement states that It was well received In official circles in Rome. This has revived hopes of an ItaloBrltish rapprochement. It is understood that Mr Chamberlain re affirmed the principles of the Anglo-Italian gentlemen's agreement and emphasised that Britain and Italy have not conflicting interests in the Mediterranean and tiiat both countries are anxious to limit the Spanish conflict. The newspapers are even more hopeful of a settlement of the nonintervention deadlock, which yesterday they declared Russia had killed
