CURRENT PROGRAMMES. CIVIO THEATRE. Those who see the hilarious comedy, “As Good as Married,” will be unanimous In their enthusiasm over the entertainment offered in this brilliantly mounted picture. Alexander Drew, the wealthy architect who marries his pretty young secretary simply to save on his income tax and to avoid the annoyance of breach of promise blackmail, finds that there should be more to marriage than this. Alan Mowbray, as his friend and cpllaborator in both business and private life, gives a fine performance in his oomedy role as Wally, the husband who Is always collecting girls’ telephone numbers on his shirts, whose wife oomplains of a “"hang-over” after Wally has had the drinks, and thanks him for the tip when he says he is about to spend a week-end at home. Ernest Cossart, the butler of “Three Smart Girls,” is in a similar role In this film. Walter Pidgeon, Tala Birell, Katherine Alexander, Dorothea Kent, and Mary Philips are others of the oomic team.

REGENT THEATRE. Grade Fields, -said to be the highest paid stage and film star in the world, plays the part of Sally Lee, a Lancashire mill employee, with ambitions to go on the stage, in “The Show Goes On.” While singing in a cheap pierrot troupe she attracts the attention of Martin Fraser (Owen Nares), a song writer, who eventually trains her for the concert stage. The serious nature of her songs meets with scant success, and. in desperation she reverts to her famous Lancashire clowning, and immediately achieves fame. Cyril Ritchard plays the role of Jimmy, Sally’s accompanist. Catchy songs include “A Song In Your Heart,” “My Love for You,” “The Co-op. Show," “ I Never Cried So Much in All My Life,” “You’ve Got to Smile When You Say Good-bye” and “We’re All Good Pals Together,” while a striking scene is that on board the liner Queen Mary “WHEN LOVE IS YOUNG.” “When Love is Young.” which will head the new programme to-morrow, is a delightful comedy-drama, into which has been worked a charming romance. Virginia Bruce and Kent Taylor head the strong cast. THEATRE ROYAL.

Ramon Novarro and Evelyn Laye sing delightfully and act convincingly In “The Night Is Young,” a glamorous romance of Vienna and the Imperial Ballet. Mr Novarro is seen as a gay young Austrian archduke and Evelyn Laye as a ballet dancer. Spectacular scenes in the great Prater, or amusement park, the Imperial opera, the Emperor’s palace, and in quaint Viennese cafes and pleasure spots i figure in the elaborate settings. Song hits such as “The Night is Young.” “When I Grow too Old ,to Dream,” “Wiener Schnitzel” and others embellish the romance. The cast includes such talented players as Charles i Buttervvorth, Una Merkel, Edward Everett Horton, Donald Cook and Albert Conti. “Baby Face Harrington” is an exciting and amusing comedy, with Una Merkel and Charles Butterworth as chief funmakers. They play d smalltown couple who Inadvertently become embroiled with the law. STATE THEATRE. Set in a suburban community, “People Will Talk” tells of the attempt of Charles Ruggles and Mary Boland to straighten out the marital affairs of their daughter and son-in-law by staging a mock battle royal themselves, with the idea of showing the younger couple how silly It is. But Miss Boland forgets it is all in fun and .begins resenting her husband’s enthusiasm for his new role, and trouble really begins. It swells when neighbours misinterpret Ruggles’ perfectly innocent friendship with another woman, and it reaches a climax at a wrestling bout where Charlie, as referee, gets into great trouble. “It’s a Small World,” featuring Spencer Tracy and Wendy Barrie, is a hilarious comedy, filled with laughs, which concern a head-on collision of two high-power cars, and its romantic results. ROXY THEATRE. “This’ll Make You Whistle,” a gay musical comedy featuring Jack Buchanan, and “This Air Hostess,” a thrilling drama, will be screened today. Filmed around the trans-continental airlines and tlie air hostesses who ride the big transport planes, “ Flying Hostess ” brings to the screen the glamour, the courage and the daring uf one of the newest and most modern phases of life. The story deals with the vital, fast-moving romance of a flying hostess and an ace pilot. “ This'll Make You Whistle,” Jack Buchanan’s latest comedy, is a deliciously daring musical, crammed with gaiety, song and dance, with .lack in the embarrassing position of being engaged to two girls at the same time.
