Protesting against the food supply at the Targuocha salt mine 300 convicts attacked the guards 2800 feet underground with picks and shovels. Twelve convicts were shot dead and four guards were seriously injured. The authorities cat off the water and light, and the thirst-maddened convicts commandeered the lifts and came to tile surface, where they were taken prisoners.
