A terrible toll of death and destruction has been taken by an earthquake In the Vera Cruz and Puebla areas. Thousands of people stayed out of doors all night, weeping and praying. Forty bodies have been recovered and many injured persons are In hospital. Half the buildings were shattered In the town of Maltrata. where 18 people are dead and 70 injured. Vera Crux is one of the chief porta of Mexico. It is situated 26i mile from Mexico City. Puebla, known as “ the Citv of th Angels.” Is one of the oldest in the country. It is 80 miles from Mexico city.
