FANCY DRESS DANCE.
AT HAIRINI. There was a large attendance at the children’s fancy dress dance at Halrini recently, promoted by the Hairinl Basketball Club. The Judges, Alesdames G. Johnson (Hairlni) and C. R. Sherley (Te Awamutu) had a hard task in making the following awards: Prettiest costumes, Jean Hodgson (Balloon Girl), and Ray Marx (Indian Rajah); most original costumes, tiny tots, Shirley Gockerton (Mid-Victorian Lady), and Graeme Marx (Drummer Boy); juniors, S. Gockerton (Mae West) and A. Hodgson (Chinese Alandarin); seniors, D. Summers (Odol Paste) and R. Summers (Tramp); adults, Aliss N. Campbell (Coronation Girl). Special prizes: Best pair, Ken and June Glass (Dutch couple) ; prettiest pair, J. and N. Dean (pink butterflies); Betty Chamberlain (Page) and Barbara Parish (Star Fairy). Musio for the children’s dances and march was played by Mrs Cyril Parish, and for the adults by Air S. Strange (Te Awamutu) and Air Summers (Hairini). Alessrs D. J. Young and K. Balme were Al’s.C. A novelty dance was won by Airs Cave and partner, and the winners of other competitions were Aliss Hawke and Air Hawley. Dancing was enjoyed and novelty Items were a sailor’s hornpipe by Aliss P. Bridge, and a tap dance by Aliss E. North. Aliss J. Webber gave muchappreciated elocution. During the evening Alisses P. Bridge and E. North were presented with gifts of appreciation by the Basketball Club.
