FARMER’S NEGLIGENCE.

DRIVING IN A FOQ. VISIBILITY BLAMED. A fine of £2 and 15s coats was imposed on Joseph Wiki Turner, a farmer, of Te Awamutu, by Mr S. L. Paterson. S.M.. in the Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, to-day. when convicting defendant on a charge of negligent driving.

Thomas Emo, a farmer, said he was driving a herd of cattle on the Tuhikaramea Road when he heard defendant’s car approaching. Witness stepped out to warn the driver thal the cattle were on the road. There was a slight fog. Defendant did not slow up, and crashed into the herd, breaking the leg of one of the animals. One of the wheels of the car collapsed and the vehicle continued, dragging on the brake drum. Other cows wen hit.

Constable G. Stevens said he tool a statement from defendant, who said that the sun was breaking through the fog and visibility was difficult. Defendant was on his correct side of the road but did not see the herd until the collision occurred.
