FIRE IN A CONVENT.

At 7.15 o’clock this morning the fire brigade received a cull to a fire at St. [Joseph's tiunvent (Manganhare). I A full muster of the brigade re—sponded promptly. The tire started in the washlwquE, and spread along it Covered way into the back portions of the convent building. The bathroom and pantry were damaged and also the outside walls of the building. ri‘he \vashllouse is a total loss. .Fortunately there was an absence of wind otherwise the task or the brigade would have been much more difficult. Two leads were taken from the main road, a tlislunce of 400 yards, and another lead from Logan Street. By the Use at a high pressure pump on tho engine, a good pressure \\"ds .illilthLliHifll‘V available and the flames were quickly under control. The building and contents were covered by insurances, but the amounts are not available. There were il\'e Sisters and five boarders living on the premises, and at the time oi“ the outbreak they were at early morning Miss. The building was officially opened by the late Bishop Lenihau in Decem—ber, 1907.
