MYSTERIOUS FIRES
BUILDING GUTTED. Two SEPARATE OUTBREAKS. THREE SHOPS BURNED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GORE, Monday. A two-storeyed building containing the Star Stores Grocery, Mr W. Christie's cycle shop and Mrs M, Isa—beth’s mantle shop on the ground floor, and the rooms of the Core Soldiers‘ Club on the second floor, was gutted by fire. The first outbreak, the cause of which is unknown, occurred about 10 o'clock last evening and gutted Mrs Isabeth's shop, the rest of the build—ing being saved, clue to the efficient work of the brigade, The second out—break. the cause of which was also unknown, occurred at 2 am. to-day and the tire had a strong hold by the time the brigade arrived. The flames completely wrecked .the building, which was erected in 1906, and was owned by the Gore Proprietary Com—pany. The insurance was in the Queens—land Company fcr £2500. The contents 01' each shop were insured, Christie's with the Yorkshire Company forfiln'ifi, but the others are not asoertainable. _ The Soldiers‘ Club contents were insured in the New Zeziland Company for £650. The loss is a severe one to the club as many irreplaceable records, relics, historic photographs, etc., were completely destroyed as well as three billiard tables, upwards of 100 cues. and the club library. The club steward, and secretary of the Core Returned Soldiers‘ Association. Mr G. Cei'lien, also suiTered severe loss of private stock, tobacco, etc.
