FILMS IN SCHOOLS.

AN EDUCATIONAL MEDIUM. 1‘ *~ l SUPPORT A’T' TE AWAMUTU. 1 (Times Representative). TE A\VAMUTU, Wednesday. In connection with the proposal to install a film projector for use in schools as an educational instrument, Mr G. Smith read a circular outlining the scheme in detail. at a. meeting of the Te Awamutu School Committeel last evening. ‘ Mr A. L. Gilmore also stated that several schools had already favourably considered the proposal. The main? trouble once the scheme was under way would be that there may he in—-sumo-lent films to cover the requirements. The hire charge would he £1 per term. rl‘he film company had stipulated that. the projectors iised should be of first—class order so as to avoid damage, to the films. Mr G. B. Melroso said that if the schools wanted the host it would he as well to {:0 into the. matter pro—perly and buy a new machine, the cost. being £2B. Mr A. .T. Shepherd, headmaster of the To .-\wamntu School, said that he had investigated the matter in \Vel—lingtnn and it seemed that it was of no‘ use buying a. projector until an adequate supply or film was assured. At present there was a shortage. but an increase in demand would overcome that difficulty. ‘The matter of responsibility for the projector during its journeying from school to school caused a good deal of discussion, and it was decided that the responsibility should rest with the group of eight schools it 'was proposed to include in the scheme in the Te Awamutu district. Mr Armstrong suggested that the Te Awam'utu School Committee would. be well advised to buy their own proJeotor, which would be at their dis—posal whenever it was needed and which they would be able, to hire out to any other schools interested in the scheme. It was decided to support the proposal for the introduction of films into the schools in the Te Awamutu district as an educational medium.
