RAILWAY CROSSING. ABOLITION ADVOCATED. ___ The need for the elimination of the railway level crosing in Victoria Street, in the. interests of the town‘s progress, was strongly stressed by Mr W. \\'. Dillicar at a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last evening Mr Dillicar quoted the serious traffic blockage whioh occurred in Hamilton on Saturday as indicative of the man—ner in which a level ‘Cl‘OSSillg could interfere \\‘lth tramc, and he asked if anything further had been done regarding the proposal to sink the rail—way line, and obViate the crossing. The Mayor, Mr J B. Fow, said that some time ago the borough engineer. Mr R. \Vorley. had submitted a scheme on these lines. but when the coun—cil‘s representatives met officers of the Railways Department the latter idei—tented fairly clearly that the Depart—ment was not likely' to giVe the scheme much consideration. Some 01’ the business people were also op—posed to it. The Department, had had a gang of men engaged in strengthening the railway bridge for the last year, and it did not seem that, the Department intended to go to any great expense to raise or lower the bridge. ,
