THEFT OF TOOLS
Two Mm CHARGED. BURGLARY AT ROTORUA. EVIDENCE FOR CRUVVN. ‘ The theft of a quantity or tools valued at £8 25 6d at l‘totorua on February 10 was the charge preferred against. two young men, Robert Armstrong and “03‘ Vincent Clarke. in the Supreme Court. at Hamilton to—day, The indirt‘ments were taken sever—ally, the vase against Armstrong be—ing first. heard. His Honour. Mr Justice Fair, pre—sided. and the prosecution was con—ducted by Mr 11. T. Gillies. Mr H. J. .\lcMullin instructed by Mr Potter, ap—peared t'or Armstrong. while Mr Roe, of Rotorua. represented Clarke. Archibald Charles Crawford, car—penter, of Rotorua. said that with another carpenter named Ericson, he had been engaged in erecting a house in Ruihi Street. Rotorua. 0n February 10 their tools had been nailed securely in a small shed but, on the following morning. the door was found to have been forced and their possessions were missing. The police were intormed and on March 24 he identi—fied a number of tools at the police station as being his property. Cross-examined by Mr .\lcMullin. witness said that. the tools were or a standard variety. “He was sure thet & steel measuring-tape. allegedly stolen, was in his kit during the work in Ruihi Street in February. Although techni—cal evidence might. be given to the contrary, be recollected distinctly that he had fitted another handle to the head of the hammer that had been removed and which was now produced in Court.
