COMMERCIAL.
DRAIN AND PRODUOE. THE AUCKLAND MARKETS. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Interest in grain and produce is centred mainly on potatoes and Australian pollard. Potatoes.—Since last week there has been a distinct easing in the potato position and the price has fallen from £9 10s a ton to about £8 17s 6d a ton. This is due to increased supplies from the South Island. Onions.—Values show a slight increase at from 3s 6d to 4s a bag through store. Fowl Wheat.—Prices are steady at the unaltered rate of 6s a bushel through store. Maize.—A steady demand for imported maize continues at the unchanged level of about 6s 7d a bushel through storeBarney.—A shortage is expected in Auckland towards the end of this month. Prices are unchanged at 4s 6d a bushel through store for clipped. Oat’S and Chaff.—There is again a good demand for chaff. Prices maintain last week’s increase' at £8 a ton through store, and show a firming tendency. Oats is firm and steady at the recent level of 4s a bushel through store. Bran and Pollard.—There has been a further advance in the price of Australian pollard, which has increased to ss, to reach the exceptionally high level of £9 10s a ton through store. The local.price remains unchanged at £7 10s a ton. Bran is in fairly short supply the unchanged price of about £6 5s a ton through store. Local rates as fixed by the Wheat Cmmittee are £6 a ton.
CLEARING BALE AT MOTUMAOHO.
The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report having held a clearing sale at Motumaoho on account of Mr F. Colheck. The herd of approximately 70 dairy cows came forward in good condition and attracted a lair attendance of buyers. Competition for early calvers was good, whilst later calvers also sold firmly, prices toeing on a par with recent clearing sale rates.
Realisations were: *Good quality Jersey and Jersey cross cows, early calvers, £6 5s to £7; other early calvers, £5 to £6; Jersey and Jersey cross cows, later calvers, £3 15s to £4 15s; Shorthorn cross cows, early calvers, £3 15s to £4 15s; heavy draught gelding £23.
KOPAKI BALE.
Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having held a sale at Kopaki yesterday, when a good yarding of sheep and cattle came forward. Sheep sold well to late rates, ewes attracting keen competition. Run cattle also sold well, though Jersey store cows were a trifle easier. Quotations: Light fat lambs, 18s 6d: medium forward conditioned b.f. lambs, 15s; small ewe lambs, 17s lid; cull lambs, 10s 3d; good f.m. ewes, Romney and Southdown rams, 23s 6d; medium f.m. ewes, Southdown rams, 19s; good two, four and six-tooth ewe a, Romney and Southdown rams, 34s 9d; light fat cows, £3 14s; store Shorthorn and Jerseys, £2 3s to £2 12s; boner cows, 20s to 30s; medium two and a-half year Shorthorn heifers, empty, £4 6s; medium two and ahalf year Polled Angus heifers, empty, £4 10s; m.s. Polled Angus calves, 30 per cent steers, £3 ss; medium good conditioned three and a-half year Shorthorn steers, £5 16s to £6; medium conditioned three and a-.ialf year Polled Angus steers, £6 iss- good two and a-half year Polled Angus steers, £6 9s; medium Jersey heifers, close to profit, £4 2s 6d; medium dairy cows, August calvers. £3 to £3 10s; later calvers, £2 to £2 12s 6d.
