NO INCREASES
PRICE OF TIMBER. AWAITING INQUIRY RESULTS. CO-OPERATION WITH DEPARTMENT (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Mr J. A- Bush, President of the Federated Sawmillers, states that no increases in timber prices will be made by sawmillers in any part of the Dominion till the Government investigation is completed and the Government is satisfied as to the measure of price increase requisite to accommodate an actual rise in costs due to the new wages awards and working conditions. “Notification of a price increase by a firm at Taumarunui has been withdrawn,” added Mr Bush. “The sawmilling industry is co-operating to the fullest possible extent with the Industries and Commerce Department in carrying out its investigations into costs.” In making the statement, Mr Bush points out that the Federation does not fix timber prices but where the welfare of the industry and price considerations over the_Dominion as a whole are concerned the wishes of the parent body are respected.
