UNUSUAL PROVISION.
REBTRIOTED SHOPPING AREA. SHOPLIFTER ON PROBATION. (By Telegraph —Pres, Association.* AUCKLAND, Tuesday. The unusual course of prohibiting a woman convicted of shoplifting from shopping in certain areas was adopted by Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M. this morning in dealing with Dorothy Borich (29), married, who pleaded guilty on Saturday, to stealing a cake of soap valued at Is 3d.
The magistrate said that although twice previously convicted, and, when warned, had undertaken not to go to this particular store again, he would take into consideration the fact that accused had been attending the nerve clinic at the Auckland Hospital for some months, and was still suffering from mental depression. Accused was admitted to probation for two years.
" I think in this case I* had better impose restrictions where the temptation will not be so great,” said Mr Wilson. 44 She will be prohibited from shopping In Karangahape Road, Queen Street, and Hobson Street. She can do her shopping in the smaller shops.”
