INTOXICATED MOTORIST.
MAORI AT RACECOURSE. “ OFFENCE TOO FREQUENT.” (By Telegrapn, Times Representative.) TE AWAMUTU, Monday. Whare Taha, sharemilker, of Oparau, who was arrested when leaving the racecourse on Saturday afternoon, pleaded guilty this morning to a charge of intoxication while in charge of a motor-car. The justices convicted and fTned him £7 10s with costs £1 Is, cancelled his present driver’s license, and prohibited him from obtaining a further license for a year.
The bench commented that this class of offence was too frequent and it was determined to stop it if possible. A further offence by Taha would probably result in imprisonment.
