VICTORY OVER FRANKTON. SUPERIORITY OF FORWARDS. In the pame on No. 2 ground at Rugby Park. Marlst ran out tbe winners against Frankton after a solidgame in which the Marist. forwards predominated. hut. in which the Frankton barks were always dangerous. The teams were:— Frankton.—Gordon; Griffiths, Denz, Ferguson; Snodgrass, .Tones; Pearson; Hall, Tui Ran, Tristram, Steere, Gilber. Glasgow, Sklenars, Goodall. Marist.—McGrail; Kilpatrick, W. Cassidy, Haggerty: R. St. George, Dempsey; Mills; Trotter, Ryan, F. Cassidy. Belgrave, Mitchell, Devcieh, Lomas, Flynn. Frankton took up the attack early in the game and their backs had Marist run off their feet in several good passing rushes. Griffiths made a dash for the line, but was pulled back for a forward pass. Jones took up the attack for Frankton and cut in brilliantly to beat two men, but was soundly tackled by McGrail. The Marist backs rallied and took play to the Frankton twenty-five, but Griffiths intercepted a pass and dashed through to beat the full-back and ran the length of the field to score a great try between the posts. Snodgrass goaled— Frankton 5 Marist 0 Marist Attack. Offside play by Frankton gave F. Cassidy an easy shot at goal and he raised the three points. Denz broke away and after putting in a good run passed to Griffiths, who was called hack for a scrum. Marist secured and took play back 1o Frankton territory. The Marist backs again got going and Mills sent Kilpatrick away, but he was pushed out in the corner. Marist again pressed, but a pass from F. Cassidy went astray. A few minutes later Flynn got over tout lost possession and Frankton forced. Marist were now doing most of the attacking. F. Cassidy unsuccessfully attempted a field goal. Jones. Frankton’s second five-eights, later cut in and beat several men, but was pulled down near the line. McGrail relieved with a good kick. and sent Ryan away to bullock his way over for a try. McGrail misled a fairly easy kick. Marist again resumed the attack and Dempsey got over near the posts. F. Cassidy aded the extra points—
Marist 14 Frankton 13 Play became very willing when j Frankton took up the attack to make I strenuous efforts to regain the lead ! Play went up and down the field and ! Frankton were penalised on two oocaJ slons for Infringements in the scrum. From a later scrum Deirpsey got possession and potted a neat field goal from a handy position. Play was held up while Denz received attention for an Injury. Marist were away again, but Dempsey knocked on in attempting to pick up the ball. Ryan broke away from the scrum and, after shaking off several Frankton forwards, whipped the ball out to Kilpatrick, who raoed for the line to score near the corner. F. Cassidy goaled from a difficult angle. Play continued up and down the field, but Marist were doing most of the attacking. The final scores Marist 23 Frankton 13 Mr F. Burgess was referee.
