WAIKATO RACING CLUB

BUILDING SCHEME. f RECONSTRUCTION OF STAND. AMPLE ACCOMMODATION PROVIDED Providing the necessary flnanoe can bo arranged a building programme, embracing extensive alterations and additions to the existing official stand at Te Rapa, will be undertaken shortly by the Waikato Racing Club, the estimated expenditure running Into approximately £3300. The erection of such a structure will fulfil a pressing need in the better accommodation of the racing public at Te Rapa as the existing building, which was erected originally solely as a temporary measure, is quite inadequate for present day requirements. The new* building, making ample provision for the aocommodation of ladies, members, stewards and visitors, will be in keeping with the club's progressive policy of catering more fully, as finance permits, to the interests of the racing community. The proposed building, which will be nearly five times the size of the present structure, is planned on most modern lines. Accommodation in the jockey’s room is being enlarged and up-to-date showers and conveniences provided. An inquiry room adjacent to the secretary’s office and Jockey's room will be a decided advantage and make for the more efficient handling of any necessary inquiries that may have to be conducted during race day. On the ground floor provision has been made for the future erection of a spacious dining room. Roomy Accommodation. Upstairs there will be room accommodation for members and visitors, the terraced balcony being designed to provide, for 450. Access can be gained from either of two staircases. A commodious members’ bar and conveniences are included in the scheme. Special Stewards' and Press stands will be separated from the members* accommodation. With a view to catering for women members an extension of the southern end of the building by 40ft will be made and access can also be gained to this from the official stand which will be on the same floor. A women’s lounge and necessary conveniences are also incorporated in the constructiou of the women's portion of the building. It is hoped that the new building will be constructed in readiness for the club’s Spring meeting in November.
