OBITUARY.
MR ALBERT SYMES. AN OTOROHANGA PIONEER. (Special to Times.) OTOROHANGA, Saturday. The death has occurred at Otorohanga after a long illness, of a pioneer settler of the Otewa district, Mr Albert Symes, aged 81. The late Mr Symes came to the King Country from Taranaki 33 years ago, and acquired a property on the Otewa-Otorohanga Road with his son Richard. The land was in its virgin state and during many years of hard work was converted into the beautiful farm It is to-day. Mr Symes came from a well-known southern Taranaki family, which farmed extensively In tiie Manutahi, Patea, Kakamea and Waverley districts. The late Mr Walter Symes, a former M.P., was a brother. Mrs Symes predeceased her husband about a year ago. The late Mr Symes was a fine type of Industrious settler, and was widely esteemed. He was actively engaged in farming work up to two years ago, when, owing to medical advice, one of his legs was amputated. Since then his health failed. lie Is survived by his daughters, Mrs Anthony Ormsby, of Otorohanga, and Kenneth McCardle, of Maramarua, and one son, Mr Richard Symes, of Otewa.—The interment took place yesterday afternoon In the Otorohanga cemetery, when many settlers and relatives paid their last respects. MR KOMANGA EMERY. OTOROHANGA, Saturday. The death has occurred of Mr Komanga Emery, a well-known native of the Otewa district, aged 40. lie owned extensive areas of land. A large tangi is being held in his memory. DR. F. W. LANG. The death lias occurred of Dr. F. W. Lang (42), of the staff of the Porirua Mental Hospital. Deceased, who was a native of Auckland and was appointed assistant master at the Auckland Grammar School in 1914. He served in the Great War, gaining the Military Cross, and at the conclusion of hostilities lie went to Oxford to take an army educational instructor’s course. In 1919 he began medical studies at Edinburgh University with a scholarship, qualifying M.U.CIi.B. in 1924 and graduated M.D. in 1927. SIR FELIX SCHUSTER. \YELL-KNOWN BANKER.
