EMPIRE FLYING BOATS.
NEW “ PICKLING ” PROCEBB. In connection with the building for Imperial Airways of the 28 new Empire flying-boats now under construction by Messrs Short Bros, at Rochester, an apparatus has been installed which subjects to a special anodysing, or “pickling” process the lightweight alloy metals used in the construction of these giant airci-aft. The process is of an electrolytic character. Metal is suspended in tanks filled with a special “pickling” solution and, after being subjected to an electrical discharge, is rendered impervious to the deteriorating influence of sea-water and weather.
