FOR ROYAL JOURNEYS.
CABIN MONOPLANE. MANY NEW FEATURES. “The Golden Eagle” is a twin-en-gined Dragonfly cabin biplane ordered by King Ghazi, of Irag, from the deHavilland company for his personal use. It will be ready for delivery towards the end of this month. The Dragonfly is the ninetieth de Havilalnd design and the latest of the firm’s aircraft to be put into production. It has two Gipsy-Major 130 h.p. air-cooled engines and carries five people at a cruising speed of 125 m.p.h. over distances of up to 650 milees non-stop. King Ghazi’s aeroplane, as befits the private “aerocar” of a reigning monarch, has many special features, and is to be furnished and equipped with unusual luxury. The external colour scheme is gold, with dark green registration markings on wings and fuselage. On both sides of the nose of the fuselage is painted the aeroplane’s name—“ The Golden Eagle”—in large Arabic characters above and English script below. A gilded metal crest is fixed above the name.
