HAMILTON HARRIERS
OBJECTS OF CLUB. COMING EVENTS OUTLINED. FUNCTIONS DURING SEASON. ('ey “ Cross Country.") As new members are not. always conversant with the objects and rules of the club, it is considered that the ; time is opportune to outline them. j Object? of the Club.—According to j the rules of the Hamilton Harrier, Club. “ The object of the club shall I be to encourage and practice physical | culture by amateur cross-country and , harrier running.’ Many people In i Hamilton have the erroneous impres- ! sien that once the pack starts running they do not stop until they have crossed the finishing mark. For races ! this is true, but not for ordinary club , runs. Most of the -country through j which the pack travels will not per- j mil. a clear run. Syllabur for Season—The syllabus is ' prepared in two sections, the first of which is now available and can be obtained from the secretary,. Alterations are sometimes made in the schedule but these will be announced each Friday, in the Waikato Times. Racing Events—At intervals during the season the weekly run is substituted for races. The following are the chief events:— Novice Race of 3 miles (approx.) to be held on May 30, open to all members who have not won a harrier race. The Ready Cup is awarded to the winner. The Senior and Junior Champion- 1 ship Events. The special events to be. held are:— Patterson Cup. An inter club race with Calliope held alternately in Auckland and Hamilton (to be held here this year). Gamble Cup race, a sealed handicap 10,000 metre race. .Sweeney Cup, run In conjunction f with the Junior Championship. It is a three-mile handicap event arranged with the idea of encouraging junior members. Gilchrist Rose Bowl, awarded for a team’s race over middle distances. Pentathlon. This is a field day held near the end of the season, the winner being awarded the Oliver Shield. Attendance Badges.—These awarded to those who attend every run in the season. The Secretary. Mr Bloare. holds the record, having been present at every run during the last four years. Club Colours.—The official colours of the club are black and white with a touch of blue. Members are asked to remember this when assembling their running gear, as the same uniform creates a much better impression. A further supply of badges have been ordered and will be available at a later date for those who require them. Social Activities: —When the Calliope Club visits Hamilton a dance will be held on June 13. During the season other social functions will be arranged while at the close an annual dinner will be held when the trophies will be presented.. Vaiediotory—lt is with regret that the club announces the resignation of Mr L. W. Skeet who will leave shortly for Kohukohu. During the past four years Mr Skeet has been an active member and during the past two seasons has held the position of Deputy Captain and 'Captain. As a runner his performances were of no mean calibre, and in the 1934 season he annexed the coveted honour of Club Cb.ampMn. vaanathe
