THE WAIKATO RIVER

CONTROLLING BODY WANTED. EFFECT ON DRAINAGE. WAIUKU, Wednesday. A request that he consider appointing a controlling body for the Waikato River has been made to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the lion. P. A. de la Perrelle, and a reply is now awaited. At a meeting of ratepayers of the Aka Aka Drainage Board’s district complaint was made that silting in the estuary of the river was detrimental to the drainage of the Aka Aka Plain. Dissatisfaction was expressed that the groynes put in by the now defunct Waikato River Board had not. been removed, and that, in Ihc shooting season sportsmen were allowed to construct shelters of willows in the waterway, which when not demolished resulted in the forming of new islands. It was resolved that request for the appointment of a controlling body be submitted to the Minister.
